I haven't seen the topic discussed before but a simple google search for Can statin drugs cause hair loss, will prove that hair loss can be a symptom of taking certain statins. According to my search, only atorvastatin (Lipitor) and simvastatin (Zocor) have reported hair loss as an adverse effect, not the newer statin Crestor (rosuvastatin).
Statins help prevent the build-up of cholesterol in the bloodstream. Although rare, all statin drugs, including atorvastatin, may cause hair loss. Statins block a specific liver enzyme, hindering cholesterol production. Only about one percent of all statin users experience hair loss due to these drugs.
Hair loss, or alopecia, is a very rare side effect of all statin drugs. Widely prescribed in the treatment of high cholesterol, statins work by blocking the action of an enzyme the liver uses to make cholesterol. About 1% of people taking statins report hair loss.
