A bit on the plasma/fire thing. When it comes to fire, the colder the color of the flame the higher the temperature. The most common colors are (lowest to highest temperature) red, orange, yellow, white, blue. On page 18 Claire can melt while Chris can only dry rock with his plasma because it doesn't have the same kick as her raging inferno. Quick google search shows us that even if she can control the temperature of her fire and achieve blue flame, its temperature range would be between 1400-1650°C, while plasma on the other hand would create temperatures anywhere from 5700-9700°C. Depending on the rock, one would need temperatures ranging from 600-1000°C to melt it which means they can both melt it without much trouble.
